Maribel De Ponce was raised in Brownsville, Texas. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Texas Pan American with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies in May 2009 and later completed a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies in December 2009 also from the University of Texas Pan American. She has been a Certified Physician Assistant since 2009 and joined Gastroenterology Consultants of South Texas in Harlingen in 2011.
She previously practiced in orthopedic surgery where she assisted in total joint replacement and sports injury related treatment and surgeries. She received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2002.
Maribel worked as a certified Medical Technologist and Blood Bank supervisor prior to becoming a physician assistant at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen and Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville from 1996 to 2007. Maribel was appointed to the Texas Physician Assistant Board in October 2015 by Governor Greg Abbott for a six-year term. She is currently an active member of the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants. She is also a member of the Rio Grande Valley Physician Assistant Society, the American College of Gastroenterology and the Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.
